Why the punishment for no insurance? 09/30/2009
I have been trying to stay on top of this insurance reform. So far, I am not happy. Why punish the poor who cant afford insurance and then ask them to file a hardship waiver? Insurance prices need to come down so everyone can afford it. Period. No extra fees, or penalties for lack of money. Send a message to Congress telling them to cut it out and that you are paying attention and not pleased with this piece of news/reform, future possibility. I am going to. How ridiculous. Why aren't we taking the money from the rich guy who stiffed everyone (Bernie Madoff) last year? He could fund us all and I am not exaggerating. I hope we end in a place that we are all happy about when all the votes are in. Add Comment Asperger's disorder in kids is now linked to low levels of cortisol, a British study found. A client diagnosed with bipolar illness, who was well managed on depression meds, now needs a new one, due an extremely stressful year, financially and emotionally. My point? I have heard this said before and now am appreciating the full extent of the following comment. Some illnesses are more complex than they seem and evolve as the person does over time. This means, what worked in 2007 may be different than what works now in 2009. Just keep this in mind when you hear comments like "oh, its all in your head, doctor's just push medicine, etc." The mental health field has integrity and is fighting for your well being, please trust that. I happen to know some professionals who I am privileged to say are wonderful, ethical top notch people. I continue to try to read psychiatric journals each month to keep on top of trends. I have done this for years to keep abreast of a everchanging world and dynamic field. The following statments are trends I notice most in the literature. Meds plus psychotherapy work best. When meds dont work, please try others. A doctor's relationship (whether psychiatrist or psychologist) to the client is the key ingredient to having the person heal. That being said, what I notice to is no matter how much I read and try to stay on top of this field, I realize how much I don't know. Be Green 09/26/2009
If you can, garden and compost. This helps save Mother Earth and your grocery bill. Your body will thank you for your organic produce feeding its energy system. This year when I saw how high the vegetables cost, I groaned. My mom's garden saved the day. Recycling is saving money and our precious resources. Many businesses have gone green and tried to implement all sorts of practices. I even know of a green website that features alternative practitioners. Cycle to work or to a friend's home if you can. You will feel better, Earth and air quality will improve. So hopefully our health overall will improve. I thank you for those who are already doing their part and commend those starting to do it today for the first time. Hope for Autism and Asperger's conditions 09/25/2009
I feel it is necessary to discuss some other hot psych topics. Asperger's and autisim disorder seem to devastating the nation. The effects of Asperger's disorder for instance, can be lessened over time as the child learns social skills and how to work with peers. I have had some success with this. Some parents have found some relief in diet changes that change the child's behavior. I am referencing the famous Jenny McCarthy and her autistic son. She changed his diet and he began to speak and act more socially appropriate. Please be open to trying new things, diet changes, and alternative practices. It might change your child's life forever. I went to a conference where the psychologist mother had a child diagnosed with Asperger's disorder. She took him to a craniosacral therapy. Within 8 sessions, she had a markedly different child, one who behaved much more cohesively with the family, her and his school environment. Any further developments that I hear of or read will be posted on this site so check back. Supplementing Your Child's education- 09/18/2009
The Gift that Keeps Giving- Anytime a parent supplements the education a child receives, everyone benefits, not just the child. Why all parents don't do this is a mystery to me. It seems obvious. You guarantee your child learns certain basic concepts, classics you view as important, etc. Growing up, my parents did this by suggesting books. We took trips. I did extra math homework so they knew I knew the concepts. All this did me good and satisfied them that they did their best. Did anyone lose out? No. Was it extra work? Yes. Is this worth it? Absolutely. It sends the message to the child that they are important and their brain and education is too. That you expect your child to be capable and contribute to society at some point. What I find is a lack of discipline, a lack of motivation, lack of effort or caring in America that bothers me, because the children suffer. They don't get into the college they want. They don't get the job/career they desire. They miss out on the earning potential they deserve. So please, care, get motivated, get disciplined because it affects you, your child, your future, the society at large. If we create responsible, motivated aware adults, we have done our jobs as adult caretakers. Indigo-Bipolar Diagnosis 09/16/2009
A hot topic is if you Indigo diagnosed with Bipolar disorder. Here are some initial thoughts I felt were important to understand. Indigo is a aura frequency. As a result you have specific life experiences, a past spirituality that is compelling. You generally feel misunderstood. In Bipolar illness, there is a great sensitivity to mood and people, the environment around you. It is a chemical imbalance that medication does help. If you are lucky enough to find the right medication with dosage, you are golden. Memorize it. It will come handy for the rest of your life. You can be both. A person with Bipolar illness is like any other, good and bad, strengths and weaknesses. So much depends on their background, attitude, motivation and habits. The course of your illness, problem and your life depends on this. Exercise, a regular schedule, good support system, and proper sleep have proven to be beneficial. With Indigos with Bipolar, you need it all, exercise, yoga, tai chi, meditation, a regular exercise, good support system, journaling, spiritual activities that are meaningful to you, and honesty with knowing your stress limits. You are still a divine soul. We all are. No matter what illness doctors say you have, never fear to tell me what the past medical history is, it just gives me a picture of the past. It guides how I can best help in the future. I think no less of you. I feel this is so important to say because I am aware of the great stigma attached to mental illness, and I pray it changes and awareness/education grows/helps. The strength and love I see and feel among Indigos tell me they will prevail, no matter what. Love and blessings. I am writing this to give you love and hope for your life. Many people are diagnosed with this disorder. Many people have childhoods where their parents/caregivers were not there for them in an emotional, caring, respectful way. Parents should be this for their children. It is a hard act to provide, yet necessary. Many clients come into my office and ask for help. When we discover this, I give the same lecture, I am writing here. How they can change, how it requires work, how Dr. Marsha Linehan's treatment has been the best in my experience. I require clients to use her workbook to guide our treatment. The result? People have turned their lives around, literally. 180 degrees. I respect their dedication, hard work, tears, and pain. It is precisely that, that creates the new person I see and they feel inside. Its lovely. So, take heart, you can live, heal, breathe like the rest of us. It just takes one step at a time with a skilled therapist. Some clients do the opposite and play mind games with me. They don't last long. I am not the worst, nor the best, noone is. You, the client need to see shades of gray and understand it and respond accordingly, appropriately, given the circumstances. People with this disorder do not do this typically. You have to agree to put down the behavior of attacking every little fault in order for the therapist to keep you. If you antagonize them unnecessarily,( I have had this done before you can tell), you will be asked to leave the office never to return. The therapeutic relationship is precious and to be respected not used as a punching bag because you feel like it. I hope this information helps you the client understand how to approach the situation should the therapist tell you -"I believe you have this disorder, can we talk about this?" I realize those three words strike terror into people's hearts, but I feel that people should know success happens and will continue to happen. As long as you keep trying. Indigo Society 09/11/2009
This is a resource for Indigos who are looking to network and share information, ask questions. It appears people of all ages are on the site and it is moderated. If you know of any resources/help, let me know so I can inform the public at large. Information is power. A trend I have noticed is many young ones having weird perceptual experiences and what the meaning of that is. It is reassuring to know they have a group of peers to turn to. The website is www.Indigosociety.com. Insurance Updates/Political News 09/09/2009
If policies change for insurance -or laws pass and if affects your mental health coverage, please check the Home page on www.Govindaguidance.com for Updates. Often I will be hearing news, given information and trying to reach many people at once. This is an easy, effective way for me to reach all of you simultaneously. This requires you to pay attention to the news at least to find the latest trends, and then check the site for any updates. This will save alot of phone calling/phone tag. The 9-9-09 Shift/Energy Portal 09/09/2009
Many spiritual sites have talked about how special today is, numerically, from a energy power perspective, from the perspective that Mother Earth is evolving to the "New Earth" as everyone calls it. I was asked by the divine to wear Tiger's eye. Tiger's eye is good for luck and insight. It focuses the mind and brings clarity. On a day like today with so many people shifting and evolving, it was helpful to feel grounded and focused. I loved it. Chakras were absorbing light, releasing negative energy, and dialing into a higher level of being, energy, or dimension. I also noted many of my clients had a intense day. Physically and emotionally, everyone was reacting. People who did know this concept had reacted. People who knew and prepared for this shift were dealing well and maybe a bit tired. | ArchivesJanuary 2012 CategoriesAll |
